Timothy's Story

Life OK...I've just been included in this year's edition of Who's Who among American Teachers for 2002-2003. And you can only be nominated for this kind of recognition by a TOP student who was listed in Who's Who of American Students for the previous year. I'm also now an Academy Dean of Students at the same school....a NYC public high school near JFK airport.. I think that just about sums it up! School Cardozo HS....at least in my opinion, was barely tolerable in the late 70's. While it was an academically superlative school whose SAT scores were among the highest in Queens, NY, the racial atmosphere was terrible and very hostile. Especially during all the school busing and integration turmoil that swirled around us all then... Would I go there again? Probably not... I think going to August Martin HS or Springfield Gardens HS would've been far better and felt more at home!! College I attended Boston University from 79 to 81. Great campus but their tuition was a bit high (even more than Harvard's at the time) Graduated from CUNY..... & received my Master's from Queens College in 1995. I WILL be a school administrator some day soon.....but ONLY after the next election in 2008....when a Democrat (hopefully!) is in the White House.. I am going to be one hell of a school principal...in the not-too-distant future one day.... OK....I FINISHED the post Masters' school buldi...Expand for more
ng leadership program at LIU/CW Post in Jan '09; and just received my NY State certification in school administration/supervision; and I will soon be looking to become an Ass't Principal/administrator in the not-so-distant future..preferably a high school department chairman of social studies somewhere in either NYC, Long Island, Las Vegas, or possibly even someplace in Virginia (my maternal ancestral homeland...and damn proud of it!!). Workplace I love teaching high school. Best grade level to teach, and you never ever have a boring day; esp with the 12th graders I usually get. I am also a Dean of school safety/discipline at my school in charge of maintaining order and hallway decorum on the 2nd floor and in other areas. Couldn't think of doing anything else...except maybe become Ass't Principal within the next 2 years or so. Great profession....and I'd recommend it to all.... Military I was stationed at Fort Jackson in the Fall of 1987. It was rough and the days were long, but I made it!! Constant push-ups, sit-ups, and 5-mile runs at dawn, but I made it!! Also qualified as an expert rifle marksman!! And scored among the platoon highest in Pugil-stick fighting too! And if whoever's reading this ever wants to consider signing up to join Uncle Sam's armed forces, Go for it!!Just get ready and get into shape; never question an order, and DON'T volunteer for anything.....ever!!
